A few days ago we discussed the demand for SaaS Data Escrow based on a survey of 400 senior IT decision makers. In the same piece of research we also investigated the reasons driving Saas Data Escrow and where organizations want to (or plan to) store a copy of their SaaS data.
The findings highlighted six primary drivers, with protection against data loss or corruption from either the SaaS vendor or the end-user the two leading concerns. Rather more commonplace requirements included the availability of data should there be a temporary service issue with the SaaS provider, or a fault with the organization’s internet connection.

Chart: Why do you want to keep a copy of your SaaS data
Perhaps one of the most interesting reasons though is the need for reporting and analysis that can’t be supported within existing SaaS applications. This isn’t a negative reflection on SaaS providers, more a realization that while SaaS applications provide adequate vanilla reporting, SaaS customers often need more complex and bespoke analytics. These same customers also need reporting and analytical performance that is difficult to guarantee in a SaaS environment.
If you’re a SaaS vendor or customer, let us know your thoughts on the concept of SaaS Data Escrow and why companies want to keep an independent copy of their SaaS data.
